How to Get More Exposure as a Photographer

If you are a photographer, you are most likely active on Instagram. Nowadays, if you are attempting to grow your audience, posting frequently and using hashtags isn’t enough.

Unsplash

I started looking elsewhere and decided to upload a few of my favorite shots to Unsplash, a free high quality image site.

I was blown away by the results. In two days, I had amassed nearly half a million views and over a thousand downloads. I was getting tagged by publications and blogs that had already written content and featured my image.

Instantly it made me realize this was a very powerful tool that I could use to leverage and grow my brand. Unsplash is great because it doesn’t matter if you have no followers or a million followers, if you upload a great image, it WILL be seen.

All of the content that is published with your images will likely have links back to your personal website. People love to give credit in that regard and all of this improves your website’s search rankings, getting you more clients, and also growing your brand.

Followers will become obsolete in time and we will start to see other platforms migrate to a like or popularity based system as we have seen with the blogging platform Medium.

Blog

Having a blog section in addition to your portfolio will help in all of the same aspects I mentioned above. A blog will attract a different target audience and will allow you to grow even faster. It won’t happen overnight, but if you are writing quality articles on a consistent basis, you will eventually see a rise in traffic. And if you rather not spend a large amount of time writing, even 1 or 2 articles per month will build a more personal connection with potential clients that visit your site.
